Fall Yoga

When life feels fast or uncertain, your practice gives you roots. This month we slow down, breathe deeper, and remember that steadiness comes from within.

Fall in New England has a beauty that’s hard to match — the crisp mornings, shifting colors, and that sudden sense of momentum as the calendar fills with school, work, and family commitments. But along with its beauty, Ayurveda reminds us that autumn also carries an energetic shift.

This is Vata season: light, dry, and mobile. You might notice it in your own body and mind — more restlessness, difficulty sleeping, scattered focus, even achy joints or dry skin. When Vata energy is high, it can feel like you’re being pulled in a dozen directions at once.

Ayurveda teaches us that the key to balance is not to fight energy with more of the same, but to counterbalance. The remedy for excess Vata? Grounding. Slowing down. Building stability. That’s why this month’s theme — Grounding — is more than just a yoga buzzword. It’s a direct response to what both nature and your nervous system are asking for.

Through the lens of yoga philosophy, we look to the Root Chakra (Muladhara) for that same sense of stability and foundation. Just as the trees around us hold firm while their leaves change and fall, we learn to root into steadiness so we can navigate transition with clarity and calm.

This October, our classes are designed to help you do exactly that: sequences that strengthen your foundation, postures that keep you steady, and breath practices that anchor you in the present moment. Whether you’re a longtime student refining alignment or someone returning after time away, you’ll find a practice that steadies, supports, and strengthens you for the season ahead.

Saturday Class Update: Stretch & Surrender at 8:30 a.m.

We’ll say goodbye to Forge & Flow on Saturday, Sept 27. Starting Oct 4, Saturdays shift to Stretch & Surrender at 8:30 a.m. (55 min).

Why the change? Because fall calls for it. Just as nature slows down, this class is designed to help you melt away the physical and energetic tension you’ve been carrying all week. With longer holds, therapeutic floor-based postures, and intentional sequencing for the hips, shoulders, and spine, you’ll feel the accumulated stress dissolve.

Think of it as clearing the slate — releasing what weighs you down so you can welcome ease, both physically and energetically, for the weekend ahead. It’s the perfect complement to our weekday practices, offering balance and grounding exactly when you need it most.

October Theme: Grounding

Our anchor this month is simple: Root down to rise steady.

  • Peak posture: Revolved Triangle (Parivrtta Trikonasana).

  • Why: It’s accessible but powerful — grounding through the feet while twisting from a strong core.

  • For longtime students: October is your chance to refine alignment and slow things down after a busy summer.

  • For anyone who’s been away: This is the month to return. The sequences are steady, supportive, and designed to leave you calm and centered, not depleted
