Yogi Of The Month: Marlene Aguire

  • How long have you been practicing?I began attending Mantra Yoga from the beginning when Marlena opened her doors at High St, but I have been practicing yoga since 2002 when my family lived in Indonesia.
  • How did you find your way onto your mat? When I lived in Indonesia I had some friends who attended yoga classes so I decided to join them and I enjoyed it from the beginning. How often do you practice? I try to practice four to five times a week if it does not conflict with my work schedule.
  • What is your favorite posture? My favorite posture is the Twist because I can feel my abdomen getting stronger the more I do it.
  • What have you learned on your yogic journey? Patience
  • What advice would you share with someone who is new to yoga? My advice to the newcomer is to be patient and not to be discouraged when you are unable to do a certain posture. When it is the right time it will come to you.
  • What benefits have you received from practicing yoga? My body has become stronger, and my muscles have become firmer. I have also learned how to relax.
