Mantra Lab: mini workshops for a deeper yoga experience

Join us for a very special and rare opportunity to delve deeper into the many aspects and full spectrum of yoga.

Space is limited

Preregistration is required as space is limited, spots in these labs are sure to fill fast. Cancellation policy is firm.

Yoga is more then practicing asana (poses). Without a deeper knowledge and tools it's hard to fully experience why it's such a beneficial, powerful practice. I understand anyone can teach you how to do a pose but is that all you want, is that all you're really hoping to gain by showing up on your mat?

I don't think so and that's why I've created the Mantra Lab. Join us to explore meditation, theory, methodology, subtle energy and so much more!

Mantra Labs will not include a full physical practice but from time to time will explore deeper knowledge and understanding of achieving a particular asana. In these instances it's highly recommended if not required that you attend the 6pm All levels Vinyasa class in order to warm your muscles and prepare your body for a deeper exploration.

I'm super excited for you to join us and explore all that yoga has to offer you!

Namaste,

Marlena

This Spa like experience will leave you feeling centered and truly refreshed.

Deeply stretch and release tension throughout the body to quiet the mind. Yin yoga realigns the energy paths in the body, clearing blockages for vital energy (Chi) to flow freely and restore overall health and balance. This gentle yin practice will prepare the body to receive the following deeply calming effects that restorative yoga offers our nervous system, through supportive floor postures, gentle therapeutic hands on assists and deeply calming relaxation.

Gentle massage, scented oils, bolsters, eye pillow and overall bliss included.

Please feel free to bring your own blanket to soften into.

Yin Yoga: is the complimentary practice to our more dynamic yang vinyasa practice. A yin practice focuses primarily on floor postures, held passively for longer periods of time to allow the body to open and access the deeper connective tissues and fascia.

Yin yoga will restore and maintain the natural mobility in your joints, enhancing the body’s range of motion, energetic flow and emotional well being. Yin’s emphasis on stillness and silence promotes a deeply meditative experience.

Restorative yoga: provides healing for the body and the mind. It is especially useful when you need to eliminate fatigue and stress that result from your daily activities. It can also help you recover from illness and injury or overcome emotional depression and anxiety that are caused by traumatic events such as divorce, loss of job and death of a beloved.

It is known that restorative yoga can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which enables automatic control of the body. As such, the regular nervous system will be at rest, and the muscles will become more relaxed. Constant practice of restorative yoga will make your body less vulnerable to stress-related illnesses and help you achieve optimal health.

BONUS: Throughout this delicious practice you'll be washed in the healing sounds of crystal bowls masterfully played by Joe Hayes. Crystal bowls tuned to the frequency of our Chakra's heal and balance the subtle energy with in, leaving us feeling refreshingly calm and transformed on a cellular level.

Hello, I am Jacqui Bonwell:  Experienced - 500hr Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT-500),  Level 1 Balanced Athlete ™ Certified coach, Level 1 FMS (Functional Movement Systems) certified, Reiki Master, Yoga Life Coach, Director of the Sacred Seeds Yoga School (RYS-200hr level, RYS-500hr level) in the Boston/New England area and Owner of the Canton Yoga Shala in Canton, MA. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Rhode Island.  I work primarily with Yoga Teachers through my 200hr & 500hr Yoga Teacher Training certification programs. Additionally, I provide Life Coaching to help yoga students deepen their practice and apply the teachings to their everyday lives.  My most important credential and greatest training has been Motherhood.

After graduating from college, I backpacked Europe then headed home. Ibegan a 10 year career in Social Services that took me from Boston neighborhoods to a women and children’s refuge in Ireland. During my social services career, I had the privilege of meeting amazing people who did more than persevere; they transformed. At the same time, I witnessed a darker side of life that felt like sandpaper to the soul.

There are defining moments in life when we wonder if we are in the right place or if we are heading in the right direction. Distance helps us to see things clearly. Yoga provided me with the space I needed to reflect. From my yoga practice, answers came forth.  After ten years of being overworked and overweight, my body had dictated that I had learned how not to live. That is when I said good-bye to my career in social services.

From my first class with Sagarika Ghose and forward, I knew that yoga for me was more than a practice, it was a calling. I completed the Open Doors Teacher Training out of Weymouth, MA. This program not only touched on the teachings of yoga (power vinyasa, hatha & restorative yoga) but included strong energy healing components.  I met a wonderful mentor, Reiki Master & Teacher, Pat Iyer. She helped me to build strong roots right out of the training gate.

At just the right place and time, a major inspiration of mine, Sharon Gannon (Jivamukti Yoga), came into my life. She directed me on the path of genuinely preserving what yoga is and living life to its fullest extent.

I will be forever grateful for the sage teachings of those yogi’s who have gone before me.  I continue to be deeply inspired by my fellow yoga teachers: David Vendetti, Johnny Gillespie, Rolf Gates, Sharon Gannon and Pat Iyer. I have profound respect for an endless list of yogi’s and healers that I have come to know.

My greatest mission in yoga is to direct people back to their original selves – where their greatest source of freedom and strength already exists.

Every day, I am reminded of the importance of connection to spirit.  I see these very teachings in my children: Lola, 6, and Wyatt, 2, and my two children in spirit. My teachers include my husband, my mother, my whole family, friends and yoga students. Through the people put into my life, I know that the divine exists here on earth.

Why Are You Here? & Yoga Nidra

Join us for inspirational discussion, light asana, and Yoga Nidra meditation.

Friday, Feb 6th: 6-9pm

There are lots of things you could be doing tonight. Why are you here?

This is yoga. It’s a discipline. It’s hard work. Why would you want to do this? There are easier things to do than to become a yoga practitioner. If you are longing to know, to soar, to heal, to be happy, to answer the question “Who am I?” then you know why you are here – yoga changes us, transforms us, strengthens us, and elevates our consciousness and it all begins with “breathe in and breathe out”.

Followed by

Yoga Nidra is a deep guided meditation that gradually withdraws our awareness from the outer world and turns it inward (pratyahara). This state of mind rests between wakefulness and dream sleep. Mental activity quiets down and we enter a calm “sleep-like” state, where deep relaxation occurs, and the door opens to the three inner limbs of yoga – concentration, meditation, and realization.

You'll feel rested and prepared to go home, sleep well, and come back tomorrow!

Detox for Mind and Body: The Cleansing effects of Tristana

Saturday, Feb 7th: 9-12pm

(Breath, Bandhas, and Drishti) (Asana and pranayama)

A strong and sweaty astanga vinyasa flow asana practice is an incredibly potent ally in maintaining good health. It can strengthen our immune system and help us to clear tightness, toxins, and tension from our minds and bodies. Using the yoga tools of breath, bandhas, and drishti, we learn to fine-tune our attention and tap into our inner world. These three aspects are profound and powerful aids to the development of mindfulness and are designed to bring the attention to the present moment and quiet our mind. Then we can work to burn out physical and psychological obstacles that limit our health and happiness.

Yoga for Warriors

Saturday, Feb 7th: 1:30-4:30

(moderate asana and discussion)

The day after 9/11 Beryl Bender Birch, yoga teacher and Wellness Director at the time of the New York Road Runners, was called upon to help families of victims, first responders and others suffering the brutal aftermath of the attacks on New York City. She subsequently witnessed the power of the yoga practices—breathing, movement, and meditation—to help those suffering with anxiety related disorders such as post-traumatic stress (PTSD) or traumatic brain injury (TBI). A yoga practitioner and teacher for over 40 years, Beryl is the author of three books on yoga, including Power Yoga. Her newest book, Yoga for Warriors, is a guide for stressed out veterans struggling to navigate the transition to civilian life.

Beryl will share with us the grounding, calming, and pro-active practices that she teaches to veterans and those with any anxiety related disorder. See how you or your students can use yoga to develop reliance, a sense of control, and a safe connection to the present moment and ramp down debilitating anxiety. Yoga for Warriors is a practice for anyone who hopes to be healthier and happier and effectively deal with the traumas of life—whether past or future.
